Ramblings in Huntingdonshire
Today’s trip was going to be even longer – but, with feeling a bit tired from the weekend still, and a work-related day out on Wednesday – decided to do a shorter journey today, via St Ives market, meaning I don’t need to go into Saffron Walden tomorrow (for paper, card etc.)
So, Caroline dropped me off at Royston Burns Road/Roysia Surgery in time for the 0902 26 to Cambridge, which was Volvo Olympian 16014. We got to Cambridge in time for a very well loaded Dart 33399 on the 1000 Service 55 to St Ives and Huntingdon (direct) – I got off at St Ives, where this pic was taken.
After purchasing another lovely selection of paper and card from John (and Rosie)’s stall, and some other edibiles (plus tea bags for C!), amongst many other things… before returning to the bus station to catch Service 45, almost half way through it’s journey between Cambridge, Bar Hill, St Ives, Houghton, RAF Wyton, to Huntingdon bus station. A mix of Volvo’s, Darts, but Leyland Olympian 14053 turned up for my journey.
From there, I picked up the 65 from Huntingdon Tesco to St Neots Market Square, at the bus station at 1200, until St Neots, Cambridge Street with mini Dart 33305…
… where I had time to add another ex-Dundee Volvo Citybus to the collection – 94 is still in it’s former owners livery, but has been owned by Hereward Coaches for the best part of three years. Hard to think these vehicles are almost 20 years old now!
… just in time to allow me to cross the road, and get the 1250 departure on the X5 to Cambridge – Volvo 53604 dropped me in the rain at Parkside, for the short walk to the Bus Station. Once 16014 arrived, back to Cambridge, and onto Royston.
A shorter day, 5 ½ hours or so, but very enjoyable (aside from the rain and 15 min delay to the last leg of the journey!) You can see all the pictures here.
