The week just gone
Feb. 23rd, 2008 11:50 amFirst things first… when I went to see the doc on Monday, one of the possibilities that he mentioned is that some people need pills all the time. Some have a naturally low serotonin level in their bodies. I’ve thought about this quite a bit since. It would certainly explain the tears and upsets, as I’ve genuinely been good (or better) with recent times. It may or may not be the answer, and if so, it makes me wonder why it’s not been mentioned until now. Moods come and go, and quite often things would change by the time I got around to seeing the doctor. On a few occasions, they held back from restarting me on SSRI’s, because I wasn’t that depressed. For now, I’m on them for six months. Despite the fact that they are still building up in my system, I feel a little better just knowing that I have some explanation, and indeed, the possibility (assuming that these pills work) that I won’t just break down as often as I was doing before. Lets see how things go. I’m also trying again ramping up the Estradiol to 3 x day, starting from today.
Other happenings;
Caroline now has the letter confirming her surgery date as 29th April – at 0800! An early start for me then… Someone asked what I would do during the two-three hours while C is away… and it’s obvious (now), have breakfast and wake up!
Lisa M sent me a text yesterday, advising me that she’s got her PHD studentship at Dundee University that she was going for. Another well done. I remember the hard work she was talking about on our recent meet-up!
This past week has (largely) been good. The weekend saw the visits of Beth & Anna, and on Saturday afternoon, we went for a walk through parts of Royston (see pics), and then into Cambridge on Sunday.
Monday was taken up with the docs (as I didn’t get much sleep). Tuesday afternoon was at work, and was mostly spent undoing the installation of IE7 onto one of our Windows XP machines (despite uninstalling BOTH parts several times, IE6 would not revert, or install! Fix done by using the developers edition from the Microsoft website to download the whole file, rather than just the bits needed. Got to the end of the day, and no time to place a desktop shortcut, but that was fixed quickly the next day).
Wednesday afternoon was also spent at work, and was a little different. With a reported earlier road traffic accident on the Milton roundabout (A10/A14), this would explain why the buses towards Milton were hunting in packs for the rest of the day. Anyway, when I got to work, a little down for time, I ended up working an hour longer than usual, and on my own entirely – me representing the entire country, and here to serve! Two calls from 1600-1658, before a last-minute call took me up to 1720. This is the difference – there were plenty of buses back, that’s not the problem. It didn’t feel like engrossing onto my time, and I made sure that the paperwork was left completed legibly, as it required follow-up by a colleague the next day. The caller went on to thank me for the suggestions and for listening to her – apparently, no-one else she’d spoken to (lots of them) had given her any time at all.
After work, popped in briefly to see
auntysarah, before we stopped at Staples for a new hard drive or two (Mac OS10.5 requires one as a Time Machine for back-ups), and thanks to some confusion with the vouchers we’d tendered, we ended up making a rather substantial saving! Afterwards, we went to see the newly-engaged Jayne for dinner and an evening talking, before we both started flagging.
Thursday, I was out via Trumpington and Addenbrooke’s to Saffron Walden, then back to Royston.
Friday, I went into Cambridge after the post showed up, and got a few ingredients for dinner from Sainsbury’s – and a few items for today’s lunch.
I wanted to keep busy, and see how well I coped with it all. Aside from the bad start, I feel that I have made progress. There are lots of things to be done in the coming weeks and months.
