When I was doing the list of notable days from the last few years, I blatantly (inadvertently) overlooked the death of Tom Wilson, back on 25th March 2004. The phrase “music legend” is very over-used, but never was it more the case than here. His show on Radio Forth (then Forth FM) “Stepping Out” went on for the best part of two decades, and (in days before the Internet) used to be taped and shared by dance music enthusiasts around the world! There was even a load of lads who would hire a van to drive into the transmission area, just to hear the show! After his untimely death, his website has been maintained as a tribute to the great man. Rest in peace brother, we are keeping the faith down here!

Yes, it’s that time of the year again. I was waiting to be picked up around the back of the Overgate Centre, wondered where everyone was… and it turns out it was the North Lindsay Street exit/entrance, as opposed to the one a Barrack Street where I was standing! Oh well never mind, Maggie saw me and yelled me over… which was good! We firstly headed for the Megabowl at Stack Leisure Park… and I’ve not bowled in well over a decade. I did better than I was expecting, scraping in at 53/100 and 52/100. I was trying to beat my score in the second game, but ended up with the ball bouncing and twisting away out of sight. This was then followed by a game of pool, and as that drew to a close, I said to Vikki “Let’s head for the bar… that’s the one thing I can hit…” lol no, we did quite well in the pool game, as we managed to pull it back from a hammering to one ball to go.

After this, we headed for the Bank Bar in Union Street, where our organiser had negotiated a buffet, and they had a band in afterwards (as per usual for a Saturday). They seemed to be rather good, as the main part of the pub soon got full. The acoustics came over a bit loud, but maybe I was sitting too close to something (couldn’t see any speakers, and I did look). I left as they headed towards the Seagate, and headed for home. From discussing the event afterwards, it all went smoothly.
