You know how I said the day the generator blew up about how I’ve done almost everything at work? You may also recall that I mentioned about the management of Travel Dundee wishing to visit us to discuss the reliability of their Service 14?

The meeting was arranged for 1330, and I decided that I would use the first 15 minutes or so for a brief introduction, and then open it up as a “drop-in” for anyone affected to stop by. I spoke with the boss yesterday, and to accommodate this I changed back to my old 1300-2200 shift for one day only.

I had an initial issue getting in the coded locked door, but eventually I managed it, with some help from Kris! When I got in – arrgh! Clock not turned forward by an hour (British summer time)… window handle broken off at one side… calendar for last year and stuck on November,.. I changed the latter back to April (2006) to bluff things, and proceeded to tidy up the room a little, and post up the signage I’d created the night before, complete with the Travel Dundee logo on it (I couldn’t get our new Sitel logo for love or want of asking, but the TD logo took just one phone call to the Sales & Marketing department at TWM…)

Travel Dundee management were due in at 1330, and arrived a few moments after. James Lee MBE (awarded for services to the bus industry) is Travel Dundee’s managing director, and he was in attendance along with Stuart Henry, National Express Group’s Bus Division’s Corporate Affairs Manager.

Stuart had to fly, literally, as he was flying back to Birmingham at 1700 hours, so they both left at 1445. I cleared the room, and prepared the meeting notes, and circulated to those interested (all the team coaches were in their usual weekly meeting at this point). The company have promised to keep an eye on the reliability of the service, especially with journeys in the morning peak. Work on the “nuclear bunker” at the side of Ninewells Hospital is almost complete, so this will allow Service 14 to operate direct from Ninewells Hospital to the Medipark. This will help with reliability by a few minutes. Jim emailed me later to say thanks for arranging the meeting, which they both found “very productive”.

On a different tack, I was exchanging texts with Caroline throughout the day, and got one of the most romantic ones I’ve ever had…

“Being loved in the nicest feeling I know Suzy. There is nothing better. It’s been a long time for me. Being in love feels equally good. I’ve been in love many times though and almost always it’s unrequited! It feels lovely to know it’s mutual. The phrase “walking on air” comes to mind. It’s a warm glow inside. I wish there was more of it around, people would behave much better. It’s also a kind of magic which should not be analysed, just accepted without strings attached.”

As Bebgie said on Trainspotting – “brilliantly f*****g illustrated” !
