From various sources, including the Anglia Bus News Page, and the Cambridgeshire County Council and Stagecoach Cambridge websites, comes this –

The first of the new Enviro 400 double deckers for Cambridge Park & Ride have arrived from Alexander-Dennis, along with three Enviro200 single deckers for an extension to the citi4 service. These pictures are not mine, but here you can see the first of the Enviro 400’s in blue, for the Trumpington Park & Ride service, as well as the Enviro 200 singles. The 200’s are noteworthy for not having the full blue bit at the front – presumably something to add to it before they go on the road.

They will of course mingle on the road with MAN’s and older Darts too, and starting on Sunday 22nd July 2007, Service citi4 (Cambourne – City Centre, Downing Street) will extend to link the new development at Arbury Park. Buses will still run every 20 minutes in the day and every hour until late each evening and on Sundays, but the service will start from King's Hedges, Arbury Park past Cambridge Regional College, down Milton Road, into Emmanuel Street and then out through Silver Street, West Road and Grange Road as it does at present, heading onto Cambourne. The service continues to combine with uni4 to provide an every 10 minute service between the west of Cambridge and the city centre. The service runs every hour in the evenings and on Sundays. There are also minor changes to evening & Sunday buses to and from Cambourne from the 22nd. The new timetable can be found here.

As I mentioned after getting caught up in it, Long Road Trumpington is to be closed to allow the building work on the Cambridge Guided Busway. There are two separate leaflets, one with general information, and one with bus information in it.

Stagecoach service citi7 (Cottenham – Cambridge – Addenbrooke’s – Sawston, Duxford, or Saffron Walden) northbound towards Cottenham will be unable to serve Long Road, Robinson Way, Addenbrooke’s Hospital and the section of Hills Road between Addenbrooke’s Hospital and Brookland’s Avenue. Instead it will run down Trumpington Road, along Brooklands Avenue and then direct to the rail station. Here passengers for Addenbrookes or any other section between are advised to use citi1. After 1915 Mon to Sat and on Sundays Addenbookes will be served after Brooklands Avenue. citi7 southbound buses heading towards Duxford, Saffron Walden, Sawston and the rest will head from the rail station along Brooklands Avenue and then along Trumpington Road. Passengers requiring Addenbrookes are again advised to use the citi1 service. After 19.15 Mon to Sat and on Sundays buses will serve Addenbrookes before heading along Brooklands Avenue.

Burtons Coaches service H1 (Trumpington Park & Ride – Addenbrooke’s Shuttle) This service will divert via Great Shelford and Babraham Road instead of Hills Road. Unusually (given that Multibus tickets aren’t normally valid), Stagecoach DayRider, DayRiderPlus, MegaRider and MegaRiderPlus tickets will be accepted on Service H1 throughout the duration of the road closure.

Stagecoach Service 26 (Cambridge Drummer Street – Royston Burns Road) This service will follow the existing route on all journeys i.e. via Trumpington Road. The 1640 from Cambridge normally leaves Cambridge via Hills Road and Long Road, but for the duration of the work, the service will run direct via Trumpington Road.

Stagecoach Service 27 (Cambridge Drummer Street – Guilden Morden Cold Harbour) This service will run via Trumpington Road in both directions, and not serve Hills Road or Long Road.

Meridian Line Service 31 (Barley/Fowlmere – Cambridge Drummer Street) This service will be unable to serve Tunwells Lane, High Green, and Cambridge Road in Great Shelford and the whole of Trumpington and Long Road (except the 0820 from Cambridge and 0839 from Trumpington, which will continue to operate to/from Trumpington). The service will instead head out on Hinton Way and in to Cambridge along Hills Road. Passengers are being advised to use citi7 instead to travel between areas that can't be served. Trumpington residents in Paget Road and Foster Road are being advised to walk to Trumpington High Street to use citi7 or use Cambridge Dial-A-Ride - £6.00 Return to the city centre or £3.50 for concession card holders!

All these diversions appear to be in place until September 3.

Stagecoach Cambridge MD Andy Campbell has blasted the council for not giving enough notice of the closure, with the full story published here by the Cambridge Evening News. It turns out that the roadworks that turned up at Trumpington (and have held up numerous people in and out of the city over recent times) were actually unannounced duct laying, on behalf of BT!

Bus chief's anger over roadworks

BUS passengers are going to get a raw deal when a major road is closed for the summer - according to the managing director of Stagecoach.

Andy Campbell has spoken out after it was announced Long Road, one of Cambridge's main arterial roads, would be closed for the whole of the school holidays to pave the way for the guided bus scheme.

And BT contractors are also digging up the A1309 Hauxton and Trumpington High Street to install cable ducts.

Mr Campbell has criticised Cambridgeshire County Council for not giving Stagecoach enough notice of the closures which will result in disruption to thousands of customers every day.

He said: "We were not told about the Trumpington Road closure until we saw them digging up the road. We fully understand it is better to shut Long Road for six weeks than have six months of roadworks but if we had been given more notice we could have planned ahead to organise more additional vehicles to help minimise disruption."

Mr Campbell approached the council to ask if buses would be permitted to drive along Long Road at 5mph during the first few days of the roadworks to help lessen the impact on services.

"But the council refused," he added. "It seems everything we tried to do to help keep things running as smoothly as possible in the circumstances has been blocked by the council. Schools are still in on July 18 so I can't see why roadworks can't wait until they are finished."

Mr Campbell said passengers have not yet realised the extent of the disruption and added: "We are doing all we possibly can to put on extra buses and we will be posting notices around to let them know about alternative arrangements with services."

A council spokeswoman said they had no prior notice of the Trumpington Road closures and were working to reduce disruption to passengers and motorists.

She said: "Safety and efficiency are our key concerns and when a road closes for roadworks it means a full closure with no exceptions. It was not a decision that was taken lightly. As soon as we knew about closures we let everybody affected know to help reduce disruption."
