I’ve almost finally made it.
Caroline drove the two of us yesterday late afternoon via the A10 (avoiding Duxford because of the airshow, and the access at Waltham Cross to the M25 is now back open!), M25, Dartford QEII Bridge, M25, M23/A23, A27, and Falmer Road, to the Downs Hotel Woodingdean. Apart from slowing traffic on the M25/A21 interchange (where we slowed at a ‘variable’ 40mph limit – but to about a quarter of that - then backed up for quite a bit), traffic flowed smoothly throughout the journey. Put it this way, traffic was moving faster for us than the poor sods on the other side, who were stuck all the way from Brands Hatch to Thurrock Services.
We got to Brighton shortly after 1900, in the light of darkness, and parked the car at the hotel. After signing in, going to an adjacent fast food outlet (the hotel restaurant is closed on Sunday nights), and still ending up safe, we had one side of the pub to ourselves for as long as we wanted. Quiet – and then some.
I did manage to wake up around 0300 this morning, and had a few attempts at making it back to sleep. Not quite, the outside seagulls had other ideas! They managed to soon disperse after fighting over whatever they found in the beer garden!
Three hours later, and I was up again. I could hear the dulcet tones of a Scania engine once more, as the B&H buses on the 22 went past early for the start of service. (There were also Tridents on the 2/2A – well, what I think was one). Staying in Royston, the early morning seagull cries and traffic noises were a thing that I was more used to in Dundee!
This morning, we had breakfast, and I *finally* managed to get my mother on the phone – for the first time since last December.
Me with wet hair this morning…

… So we’ve made it to the hospital, and I have now settled in fine. I’m in Room 11, with this view…

… and, finally, yes there now appears to be wi-fi in the hospital too…
