The day after... the day before...
Dec. 19th, 2007 10:31 pmIt seemed almost like this was a continuation of the previous day and night – and, after sleeping and waking up this morning, it was back out around the same time as yesterday! There was thick almost-freezing fog, so I went for a bus a bit earlier than usual – going for the 26 at 1026 from Tesco/1032 from Royston Burns Road. It was about 20 minutes late, which was the first obvious hint that today would go fast and slow at the same time!
So, Olympian 16082 took me to Cambridge, and then out to the shops – well, one, to get the final item of C’s Christmas gifts… before crossing St Andrew’s Street and waiting for a citi2 bus towards Milton. Typically, two came along after a protracted gap, but the fog wouldn’t have helped today!
Work – and, without going into details, I *know* that I made a difference to one particular couple today!
Left shortly after 1705, and because of the earlier problems, buses were everywhere that they shouldn’t be. Bus came after less than 10 minutes, good, but he was showing (and advising passengers) that he was only going into the city. I checked this, and he meant turning short at Emmanuel Street. All well and good, as I took a citi7 from there around to visit
auntysarah and
the_local_echo – and Sylvia arrived just as Sarah came to open the door to me!
After thirty minutes of brief discussion, I had to leave slightly in a rush (it was all go, non-stop today!), I took another citi1 around to the corner of Hills Road/Lensfield Road, walking around at the Catholic Church to get on the last 26 of the night (1840) back to Royston.
Got home around 1930, and back out after dinner (around 2045) to Tesco for a new kettle (see yesterday!) It was three degrees outside when we started driving, and C said not to complain! We drove around via Orchard Road (the ‘long way round’) and it went down to two degrees… then one… then zero degrees in the Tesco car park! Cold, right enough. We only got the kettle and a couple of other items, and headed home. After 36 hours, the majority on our feet and/or travelling, we were both knackered - but, very very happy!
(retroblogged later).
