Caroline and I stayed at The Globe Hotel, Kings Lynn, after a train ride on Friday evening. On the Saturday morning, after breakfast and a few shops, we proceeded back to Kings Lynn Railway Station, for the start of the Anglia Bus Forum tour of Norfolk. This tour was arranged with help from friends at Norfolk Green and Konectbus. To start with, one of the new 09 plate Coasthopper Solo’s, 312 (named Sylvia Townsend Warner) is seen arriving at Kings Lynn Railway Station… we had this one for the first bit of the trip, as the Townsend Warner Society had booked the bus for the afternoon to be picked up from Norwich…

… 312 shortly after at Kings Lynn Bus Station… the LED destination display was set up to show Sorry Not In Service along the top line, and a flicking text below “Norfolk Green Welcomes/The Anglia Bus Forum/www.angliabusforum.com”!!! Pimp my LED’s…

… also at Kings Lynn Bus Station we met up with a couple of other ABF members (who were unable to come) and spotted a few other vehicles, including Freestone Coaches unusual BMC Falcon – despite my sighting of a TWH one last Sunday, two of these unusually rare buses in six days is not normal going…!

… First now have low floor double deckers working from Lynn, as well as some single deckers amongst the Gemini’s on the X1 (two have been in accidents, etc.) – here is one of each…

… NG’s flagship town route, FairsteadOne, has been converted from Solo’s to Optare Excels since my last visit, to provide more room for baby buggies. Here, 205 is at the bus station…

… we then continued to the NG depot… rear of 312 seen here…

… there are now three of the Lincolnshire County Council owned Renault minibuses for demand-responsive CallConnectPlus services, meaning 802 was spare in the depot…

… and there are just two step-entrance Darts left, with 208 seen here in the depot, alongside 230…

… this is one of two Solo’s from TM Travel, and this one is going to be 622. These have been acquired for an increase in work, with the takeover of Carnell’s service 50, and the introduction of another commercial Lynn town route, the NorthLynnToo…

… apparently, 15 minutes after we left, the scrap man came and cut up Beaver2 414 into two for scrap, in less than four minutes! This photo shows Plaxton’s bodywork, before being cut in two...
… and the driver training vehicle, 666 (this is apparently an internal joke!) was turned around for us…

… after getting back on NG 312, we drove to Konectbus in Dereham… Leyland National 152 is classed as a school bus (in the company fleet list), although, like the rest of the fleet, it gets looked after very well…

…Konect 413, a new leather seated Optare Tempo, alongside NG 312…

… preserved Bristol VR at the depot too, owned by the boss…

… Caroline on 152…

… the KonectBus overflow yard included various Optare Excels and two ex Lothian Olympians…

… former Lothian 855, 853 are now Konectbus 101, 100…

… this former Centrewest and London Northern BL Bristol LH was also in the yard…

… here, we had the choice of either staying on NG 312 or having a short ride on National 152 into Dereham town centre, and we all plumped for the latter… Julian is seen driving 152, overtaking a Versa at Market Place…

… lots of chances to snap First X1 Gemini’s, and this shot of 37570 was one of my personal choices, taken at Dereham, Market Place…

… after a lunch stop, we continued into Norwich by Konectbus new, leather seated, Optare Tempo 413, for new non-stop service str8… here it is in Norwich Bus Station…

… we had a fair bit of time here before the next bus, so enough time for us to take things a little slower for a bit! Konect’s pink DAF/Wright Gemini double deckers are for one of Norwich’s park & ride services… here is 503…

… also at the bus station…

… we then had a choice of Optare Excel 201 of Norfolk Green on the 1620 X29 to Fakenham, which is intended as a relief for the 1625 departure, operated by brand new Optare Versa 501. So, we all chose the latter…

… 501 at Fakenham… this one has taken the name Rebecca Fairhead (see here if not sure), which was previously on a Solo…

… and then, we piled into Excel 201, which was going out of service back to Kings Lynn, although it had been arranged that we’d be transported back...

… upon arrival back at Kings Lynn, a few train pics – this National Express East Anglia train stays over here at the weekend…

…before we headed back to Royston by train. It was a wonderful day out – thanks to Rob at Norfolk Green, and Julian at Konectbus, for all their help, as well as to the helpful drivers involved. You can see all the pictures here.
