Further Tayside area bus stuff
Nov. 11th, 2009 11:48 amSome bites of Scottish bus-related news…
Further to the post with regards to Stagecoach Strathtay service changes, and the “virtual” reopening of Forfar Depot (as a double outstation), Angus Council have agreed a £66,000 PA contract to subsidise the withdrawn bits of Stagecoach’s Forfar town network The journeys that were to be withdrawn on the 23/24 are all reinstated, although some are a few minutes different. A hourly off-peak Service 23B between Forfar, Whitehills HCCC and Lunanhead will be provided, to add to the facilities on the 21A. Also to operate will be a Service 23C from Forfar along Glamis Road to the Citylink/Parks express coach interchange i.e. the bus stop under the A90 underpass. From one week later (22nd November) the operator are making a few tweaks to the 73, with Ethiebeaton Park hourly journeys no longer serving Broomhill Drive, on weekdays (0738 Service 73 from Ashludie Hospital is extended beyond Dundee City Centre to Ninewells Hospital and the 0818 Service 73 from Dundee High Street to Ethiebeaton Park is withdrawn), along with some timing changes and an additional Sunday journey will run at 0834 from Dundee High Street to Arbroath Bus Station.
From Sunday 22nd November 2009, National Express Dundee (previously Travel Dundee) Dryburgh/Lochee Services 2, 2S and 4 will see changes to the route and timetable, resulting in Service 4 running mostly hourly with a revised route around the city centre (same stops as the 2), and the 2 extending to/from Camperdown Leisure Park. However, a further last minute change involves buses northbound not using Lochee High Street, instead being diverted via Lochee By Pass, as a result of a road closure until further notice. From the same date, National Express Dundee 23 (Woodside/Fleming Gardens Circular) will have a revised timetable. Buses will now run every 90 minutes instead of every hour, but there will be a Service 24, operating the other way around the circle every 90 minutes, which will combine to provide a bus every 45 minutes, instead of hourly.
The often-mentioned-of-late South Road to Liff & Fowlis Circular Service 30/31 is to be altered from the same date, with the service extended to/from the Medipark, Ninewells Hospital, Charleston Drive and Arran Drive, and with the early journey from the City Centre, and last bus back, renumbered back to 51.(!!!) reduced to approximatly hourly. The operator have also mentioned that early next year (25/01/10), the service is to be extended to/from Invergowrie.
By the way, further to the piece in May about the 51 story, further FOI requests showed Dundee City Council did not request support for the route from Angus Council because of the value of the contract being less than £50,000 a year. However, when I approached NHS Tayside with regards to the amounts paid towards Liff Hospital buses, they stated that no funding has ever been supplied by NHS Tayside or Tayside Health Board, although a decision had been reached to agree a contract with Angus over this year’s 30/31/51 changes, no price had been reached. Someone’s got the wrong end of the stick somewhere, and I’m not sure which one of the two.
