Lothian Buses roadside machines go live

Remember I mentioned these just under a year ago? Well, around thirty of them are now around the streets of Scotland's capital - see here for the details. The machines don't give change, but sell £1.00 Adult Single, 60p Child Single, £2.50 Adult Daysaver, and £2.00 Child Daysaver tickets. The idea is that if more passengers use the machines, it will speed up the service provided by Lothian Buses around the city. Machines are currently largely around the City Centre, with a few up in Leith.

My mum used one last weekend to buy a ticket, the driver seemed a wee bit flummoxed as it was the first time he'd had one but sorted it all quickly and pleasantly!!

Usually it's me who confuses the drivers with these types of things!

Drivers down here seem to get a better education in tickets & passes than some of the scottish operators... in the same group sometimes...

I don't think it was lack of education in this case, more of a 'blimey, I recognise this but what do I do again?' moment! It's such a busy time of year for the Edinburgh drivers with the Festival, it's not surprising.

This is true... nice time to start such a scheme! At least they've not made it compulsory to 'pay before you board' - for now.
