My Monday - by DayRider+

Yesterday I was out on a Stagecoach Cambridge & Peterborough DayRiderPlus, handing in a passport application in Peterborough, getting a copy of the Peterborough CC timetable book for Gareth C (and another for myself!) at the same time, and then back to Royston. (see this tale from last week, if you are wondering why I just didn't give it back to the post office!)
My trip went like this... now I was waiting for the 0928 from Royston Tesco/0932 from Burns Rd Roysia Surgery 26 to Cambridge at the bus stop in Old North Road opposite Rock Road, but the bus came in late, so I crossed over to the stop at Rock Road, and stayed on the bus for the extra half-mile or so.

Stagecoach Olympian 16023 26 due 0928/0932 Tesco/Burns Rd - Cambridge Drummer Street, then,
H&D Olympian 4206 1035 553 Cambridge Drummer Street - St Ives Bus Station
Tickets now accepted without question on Huntingdon & District and Cavalier Travel services, and I was able to spot a former Cavalier/H&D bus in plain blue with Stagecoach lettering on the left here. Jumped off here briefly for a few edibles (and not-so-edibles!) from the market, including a rather large Chocolate coffee pot! No, seriously! It was an Avon pot marked ‘Chocolate’ and intended for hot drinks, with the word Chocolate down one side. (After opening it at home, it also is a bodum-style Coffee Press, as it has the press mechanism inside), so well worth the quid (brand new boxed, but old stock). So if you hear the term 'about as much use as a chocolate teapot'... think of me!
I also picked up lunch from Boots, before continuing on the next bus.
H&D Volvo B10BLE 5311 1128 555 St Ives Bus Station - Huntingdon Bus Station. Brief stop here, before getting on board the next one.
Stagecoach Olympian 16589 1205 16 Huntingdon Bus Station - Peterborough Rivergate
I got off the bus in central Peterborough, and walked via pedestrian area to Hereward Cross, City Road, and Passport Office. After getting there, seeing thee queue, was quite pleased to see that was for collections, and I would filter off to the right. Did so, and went to a desk. I was ushered through what proved to be a metal detector, and then a security guard adjusted a Tensa-barrier to let me through to the large clear plastic post box. I returned direct to Queensgate to purchase said timetables, get some more pics, and then...
Stagecoach Volvo/PS 20851 1435 X8 Peterborough Queensgate Bus Stn - Chatteris opp Police Stn
Driver arrived sharpish, and disappeared for ten minutes before loading. Despite being 15 minutes late at Eye, we arrived at March opp. Barclays with one minute to go, and left bang on time. The driver of the PS ruined it a bit, although I was actually (for once!) looking forward to a steady ride on one of these. I was sat at the back, and suffice to say, I was rather sore afterwards (last time my lower end was that sore, they sedated me first!).
Stagecoach Olympian 16175 1608 X9 Chatteris opp Police Stn - Cambridge Drummer St
Then, just from one platform to the next, as the next bus was already doors open, with the driver taking fares and welcoming passengers...
Stagecoach Olympian 16020 1740 26 Cambridge Drummer St - Royston Queens Road at Post Office
Walked around the corner, C picked me up and drove us to the take-away, then home!
Aside from the PS driver, and the minor issue of timekeeping on the morning 26, all was good. When planning this trip, I considered going to go on at Peterborough via 37 to Stamford, 505 to Kings Lynn, train to Ely, and then pick up the X9 there. This, however, would have required starting two and a half hours earlier, and finishing an hour later. I've just not got the energy to do that right now, maybe in a few weeks or months. A tiring day, but very enjoyable.
