It’s been a busy last few days alright. I’ve been working on a project for quite some time… and 98 pages of text and 87 images later, it’s almost finished. I’ve got a few things to do this week, but if I can get that almost done (and it’s easily going to go over a hundred pages, and probably the same number of pictures), it will be a good use for the week.
Personally, I’ve been good… spending time laughing instead of crying, doing the odd spot of comedy watching on Dave (it’s a tv channel in the UK, but I forget what it used to be called).
Having said all that, and what I did on Friday, my passport arrived this morning. Today, a quiet day in, and naturally, the sun is out and it looks like a better day than yesterday!

Tuesday 3rd June – day out to Kings Lynn
I took the 1102 Royston to Cambridge train, and another to Kings Lynn. Last time I did this, I was with C, and the weather was so much better (and she chose me the bookmark in the user picture at a store in Kings Lynn!) This time, it’s a grey murky day, but I am going to have a good time!
Upon arrival at Kings Lynn, cut through the Bus Station, and spotted this very new vehicle of Coach Services on frontline service… it’s a tri-axle Scania with Spanish built Irizar coachwork.

A lot of weekly shopper services were running, being the traditional market day in the town. This provided quite a bit of transport variety, and were all well populated despite the weather getting worse throughout the day. Here, a CS Dennis coach lays over with a former First Glasgow Scania service bus.

If anyone can explain what the script lettering on the back of this coach means, please write in…

Norfolk Green stuff was going in and out very frequently, and the driver of the Mercedes on the right nicely slowed down when he saw the camera…

… yes, despite the wet and rain, I was rather surprised with the quality of this lot of pictures, and only had to scrub a few in the end.

The driver of this Eagles coach asked if the camera was broken when this East Lancs bodied Dennis Lance turned up, in an allover dark grey colour, almost like undercoat (but it wasn’t). It wasn't that bad, but the weather being grey did not help!

Just before the bus I was travelling on next turned up, the Emblings Tuesday-only Shoppers Service 3 to March was due in, and this elderly Plaxton Supreme coach turned up.

Norfolk Green have also advertised ticket promotions on the litter bins around the bus station too!

After all those, and more, I took the bus over to West Lynn, Ferry Square. This Norfolk Green Solo did the 63 via South Lynn, West Lynn, then onto Wisbech.

From Ferry Square, it’s just a short walk to the steps of the Lynn Ferry. Last time I was here with Caroline, yes it was a much brighter weekend, despite it being February. Now, in June, it was cold and wet for most of the day, but the rain wasn’t as heavy at this point.

While waiting, the white cat came over to me...

... and must have been interested by the camera, as the cat jumped up on the bench beside me, without being asked! Anyway, shame I had to go soon after.

I’d had a quick look around the shops, but said to myself I’d go back after coming back to town on the Ferry (save carrying everything around even further). Before I could get further than the Custom House/Tourist Information Centre, I spotted part of the town centre had been closed off, Fire Brigade were investigating someone overboard.

Anyway, once that was passed, I stopped in Tchibo (one of the few remaining stores not to be closed is Kings Lynn, for some reason) for a few items of clothing I’d spotted earlier (a couple of rather nice tops in the sale) and added a few items of top-half underwear too. After a few more shops, did a return to Gaywood Road/Library (out on First 42, back on the 43 – I had a PlusBus ticket so just took whichever of NG or First turned up first. In fact, I arrived at the bus station, and just missed a NG ‘FairsteadOne’, so went for the First 42 instead).
After that, dinner bought from Sainsbury’s, and then back to the station for the trains home. The two ladies opposite me were (from Kings Lynn to Littleport) were discussing their purchases of the day too!
So, despite being alone, wet and cold, it was a good day! See here for all the pictures.

Date: 2008-06-04 10:52 pm (UTC)Yes, very busy... the Plaxton is a Volvo underfloor (it turns out), but outwardly similar to those in Edinburgh.
I asked what it meant on the Anglia Bus Forum... and while various ideas were posted, someone actually phoned the proprietor to ask him... and... "Throshin' means Threshing, the thing you do to corn at harvest time... there are one or two more local phrases in use as well on other vehicles."
Aah, I've had various tv options off and on (mostly off, as I rarely had the chance to watch it). Must admit we've watched a lot of sci-fi in the last year and a bit, perhaps more than the rest of my life up to this point!
