The last time I did one of these trips was on Friday 25th May, and I had my mind on many things then. Today’s trip (also on a Intalink Explorer) was a bit more straightforward – from Royston leave on DAF/Wright 3831 on Service 331 to Ware College, cross road and wait for first 524/724. Well, the first to arrive was SM Coaches Iveco L720 OVX, which took me back to the days of the Iveco’s running around Perth and Dundee! Anyway, enough nostalgia – the 524 provides two buses an hour (at least) between Hertford and Harlow following the 724, but also running via Stansted Abbots, Harlow Town Station (where we got three fares!), Harlow Bus Station, and Church Langley. This journey finished at Harlow Bus Station (late?) but another bus was on hand to continue to Church Langley. Anyway, I had enough time to get on the 59 – Optare Solo 2460 – to Chelmsford.

Transwomen sometimes get tagged for giving out “too much information”, but the two young (natal) females at the back of the bus (and yes, they were on ALL THE WAY from Harlow to Chelmsford!) were giving away a bit more. After brief discussion of their work, one of them discussed her recent throat surgery in detail, before getting a bit gynaelogical. Then, she went onto discuss her menstruation and contraceptive requirements. Remind me to freak out the passengers on this run as soon as I’m post–op*.

Anyway, I made it to Chelmsford without losing my breakfast…

… this trip was largely to complete my set of the Essex County Council local bus timetable booklets (the council’s Traffic Control Centre is the main place to buy them), and that was done, before I had a bit of time to wait on the next 59 back to Harlow. The second run was on 2459, getting this to Harlow Bus Station, where I took Mercedes Citaro 3908 on the 724 to Hertford Bus Station. The passenger in front of me asked for a single to Ware (20 minute journey),  which was £3.40 IIRC – no wonder SM like their 524 on this route!

Anyway, upon arrival at Hertford, I could see a range of buses working a One Railway replacement run to Broxbourne. See all the pictures here (well, a handful). My favourite was this ex-Dublin Bus Volvo Olympian – still in full fleet livery, with the centre door panel-over still in plain sheet metal. Does anyone know who owns it?

Then, 3832 on the 331 back to Royston, a few minutes down. Later I saw that the last through bus to Royston (1720 from Hertford) was being ran with Dart 3417, instead of 3831 (which I saw on the way in).

Good day out – and while in Hertford, I managed to pick up a handful of walk routes and suggestions – so maybe something to do this weekend too! Lets hope for no rain…

* Well actually, maybe not as soon as, those things do vibrate quite a bit…
