Yesterday was spent preparing for today, in more ways than one.  Original plan was to travel south last night, but unwittingly by having to stay back until tonight, I have been able to avoid being caught up in two suspicious cars found in London packed with explosives.

Back on Friday 4th May, one of the things I planned to do in the morning was get some legal paperwork attended to, but as I described here, other events that day precluded all of that.

Yes, I had all my paperwork for the GRP application now complete and ready for submission – all I needed was to get the statutory declaration page signed and witnessed. Having popped into one of our local solicitors yesterday, they said they would be happy to do it. Today, the person I was meant to see had to go to a hearing, but Alan Fraser was willing to oversee the completion of the paperwork – without charging a fee for signing simple documents, he said. That was good, because some would/could charge over £20 plus vat, depending on the complexity required. So, as soon as that was done, around to Burns & Harris for a photocopy, before submitting the original by recorded delivery.

Then, it was time to visit my own doctor again once more, but not after booking my bus back down. I know it was Pride weekend in London, but there was just plain mean as well! National Express looked to be full (£35 if they had any seats), Megabus was full for west coast services to London, and Dundee to Sheffield was £31 (plus Sheffield to London if I wanted to use it) – the most I’ve ever seen them want for a single, and bear in mind with the weather, no guarantee the bus would make it! So, with all that in mind, decided to spend some money with Silver Choice instead. So, Megabus/Citylink from Dundee to Glasgow was £7, then a single on Silver Choice was £25!

After getting the prescriptions, and packing up, I got to Dundee bus station in time for 1940, and I could see the queues for London starting to make their presence. West Coast’s Volvo M100 WCM took me on the Citylink M8 to Glasgow (this journey does not serve Dunblane, Stirling or Glasgow), before Volvo “deck and a half” SIL 9988 of Silver Choice pulled in.

After giving my four digit web booking reference, the hostess retried one of the envelopes from her pocket. Enclosed was a hand-written ticket by head office, debit card receipt, and timetable leaflet (actually, a different design to the one I already had), and told me to select any seat from the top deck. We had one driver (that I could see) as well as the hostess, and we left at 2200 (this bus has the earliest departure time from both Glasgow and London). After a short time, we made it to Hamilton, and waited for the feeder coaches from Edinburgh and East Kilbride. Once we got back on the motorway, drinks/snacks service was offered (this was discontinued by National Express at the end of the 90’s), and I fell asleep soon after.
