Saturday morning randomness
Jul. 21st, 2007 09:26 amWell, it's Saturday morning, and a few things to say... so a list post in the style of
thebustocrookes...
1. First thing this morning, Caroline was deeply engrossed in her novel, and broke off momentarily to say how much she liked the quality of the writing in this journal. Awwwh... nice! I don't read many fiction novels, but I guess all the coverage of the bus war spots such as Craigo, Montrose, Borrowfield, Ballingry, Cowdenbeath, St Cyrus, Tayport etc. has helped the writing quality practice.
2. So naturally, I grabbed the first slightly-adjacent PowerBookG4 laptop that came to hand, and decided to have a read through it - but it wouldn't boot up first few attempts. It was a little bit cold... it was sat by the window...
3. Speaking of which, the post arrived shortly afterwards. Caroline's copy of the new Harry Potter book has turned up safe and sound, and she is currently reading through it. The advice slip says "Adult edition" - am I right in thinking there is an edition for kids too? If so, what is the difference?
4. In the same post was my new card for Hertfordshire County Council libraries, and the online PIN in a seperate envelope. The welcome pack shows that the Self-service facilities (by phone or website) are available between 0300 and 2345 every day - now that is precise! It also includes bits about using the computers, and it says "Library staff are not responsibile for the accuracy and reliability of... The speed of the internet"...
5. Speaking of libraries, the closed for refurbishment library in central Cambridge (I find out afterwards) used to stock quite a good range of regional UK bus timetables. The Bishopsgate library in central London, which used to be well worth a visit for such things, no longer keeps them. No? Why not?
6. Music in my head at the moment is In The Manner In Which We Burn, by The Illusion Principle. Why? Not sure, whoever is in my head obviously wanted some Saturday morning thrash to go with the toast and Tschibo coffee! Someone on NuttycaTS did post a message including the word "veracity", so shouldn't it have been A Man Of Veracity?
7. That brings me onto another - Adam's hair is currently in four different colours - Adam's Adventure 24 is simply called "Rainbow". Shame I am 424 miles away, he could do with a ribbing over this! See here... maybe this is something that could be discussed on the Haircrazy board, but what is the most number of hair colours you've seen on one head?
8. Forgot to mention this dream I had on Thursday night into Friday morning. For some reason, I was fully as I am now, and my dad was a little bit younger - maybe only five years or so - but it was as if he'd never been touched by HD. He was nice, calm and relaxed, and happy. This must be about twenty or so years ago for him - but of course, it was a dream. At the moment, it's not medically possible to get to that stage either... for the future, who knows. Even though it was a dream, it was still nice to see him as he should have been. So, why was he in his room at the nursing home in Newtyle then? The dream was pictured, I could see the location. He was sat in his chair. It could have been he was visiting my aunt, but her room is distinctly different (it faces towards Dundee, not towards Meigle). I know dream altering is a side effect of many of my current meds, so I've no idea what caused it.
9. If you want to support the War on Terror in Scotland, you could do no better (probably) than to buy a "John Smeato Smeanton Key Ring". Yes indeed - "This novelty keyring portrays the one, the only John 'Smeato' Smeaton in all his Bruce Lee-esque glory to commemorate the day he 'set aboot' the ones foolish enough to attack on his watch. This large, regtangular keyring is made of high quality acrylic and measures 55mm x 35mm and has a Lion Rampant design and an image of the man himself 'stickin' the boot in' to world terrorism with the words 'Smeato- Scotland's War on Terror' on one side and on the reverse a Saltire with the immortal words 'You come to Glasgow...Glasgow jist disnae accept this, you know whit I mean. This is Glasgow you know so, we'll set aboot ye'...£1 from each sale is being donated to the Smeaton Pint Fund, but some of these are being redirected to Erskine Hospital instead. This might be getting just a tad out of control...
10. Someone asked me about what I mentioned in the journal on Wednesday at the end of the message. Keep reading - it's working well so far...
