Hmm... Coffee...
Aug. 4th, 2007 07:56 am... had my shower, and now ready to go. Almost completely packed, tickets all printed, schedule all typed up. Aye right!
No, seriously... we do have quite a varied day potentially, see how things go! Plans are somewhat fluid until I have to go north!
(how come all my Brighton trips end with going up north soon after... well, maybe not the next one after this, of course...)
BTW, painkillers work best if they aren't at the bottom of your handbag...
.... right, this is C's day, and her appointment. I will be there for her, should she need it, but she is rather calm right now.

T-54 Continued
Aug. 4th, 2007 11:31 pmWe (Caroline & I, plus Jayne/Jim) left Royston shortly before 1000, and drove to Brighton via the Dartford Bridge. Shortly before the M25 met the M23/A23, a combination of a badly-tidied up accident and a 40mph slow-down contributed to almost an hour of delays. Having said all that, we made it to Sussex Nuffield Hospital in Woodingdean, with about 15 minutes to spare.
As Caroline booked in, the receptionist pointed us in the right direction, and said “If you and your family would like to go through…” lol extended family perhaps. What does that make me? Never mind… we got there, booked in, the lot. Caroline explains how she got on in her own post.
Post-op stuff wasn’t forgotten either. Jayne had been here a few years ago now, but wanted to thank Liz & Phil for their previous efforts. To my surprise (given how many ops he does, not just here but elsewhere, as well as other roles) they both remembered her instantly, and were pleased to see she was well.
Liz also mentioned my date may be subject to alteration, to avoid overlapping with someone else. Fine, not a problem – I’ll wait until I get the date, then I can make comment (until I do, I will keep with the date sequence as it is!)
If such a right-of-passage shopping list exists for this place, surely one of the items is visiting the Downs Hotel. We went there for lunch, and it was fairly good. They had been very busy (see above) which had a knock-on with food availability and cleanliness of the facilities – but well worth it anyhow.
The temperature was well into the mid-to-high 20’s (yes, it was Brighton Pride, as well as a smaller community event in Rottingdean), so we drove through the latter and parked up the Landcruiser with windows down. We then drove along the coast to Saltdean, and J&J went for a walk along the coast. I fell asleep (tired to be honest, and starting to think of being alone for the next few days), and never really ‘recovered’. I didn’t fully recognise where we were, and combining that with tiredness and no caffeine meant I was feeling very badly drained.
Eventually, we made it to Pool Valley in time for my coach to London – newish Levante NXVC6 on NatEx Service 025 – and this gave me time in London before getting Silver Choice Volvo/Van Hool SIL 9997 north to Glasgow. The bus had about 20 people or so on it, so we each had a double seat to ourselves, and still plenty of room to stretch out! To avoid the queues at the M1 rebuilding near Luton, we went via the A505 (not the Royston end, which I’d started at in the morning!) and Dunstable. We made it to Milton Keynes Coachway well over an hour late, making it into the morning.
