T-34 - New work, new challenges
Sep. 12th, 2007 11:47 pmToday was my first day at work, so I left around the same time as yesterday. Work is in Milton, north of Cambridge, and my arrival in the city centre ended up meeting a gap in the citi2 buses travelling in that direction! It was ok though!
Anyway, as I mentioned previously, I am currently volunteering with Ormiston Children & Families Trust on the Prisoner’s Families Helpline, and I have now finished training, so I was live on the phones today. The work is similar to before, but with some totally new concepts. It seems like a really good place to work. I sat around in the park (Milton Country Park is round the back of the place) for lunch, and then returned for the afternoon shift, before finishing around 1530.
On the way back to town, the citi3 in front of us got caught at the traffic bollard in Emmanuel Road – it wouldn’t go down! So, he reversed into the lay-by on the opposite side of the road i.e. facing the wrong way. He let our (citi2) bus take a stab at it, and the barrier retracted. He then reversed, and let the citi3 drive through safely. Then, we went up to it again, and got through fine! Isn’t technology wonderful? Then, just as soon as we got through, the sirens of a police car started up. The driver questioned where they were a few moments ago, as their presence may have helped!
Once in central Cambridge, I found First Class Teas, which had been recommended by
the_local_echo in this post. As you can see from the website, they have a very exotic (and reasonably priced) selection, so I took home two flavours of rooibos as a first attempt, as well as some peppermint leaf (C has liked the peppermint leaf tea-bags since starting her diet, so I thought this would be a nice extra).
Anyway, slight parallel and deja-vu moment from earlier, as the two of us were going to visit Jayne on the north side of the city, so another northbound citi2 (for the second time today), and then we talked about our days once Caroline joined us from work.
Tomorrow is another long-distance trip!
