... I will be "under the knife" by now!

Otherwise, a quiet, but productive, day!

As previously mentioned, I’m going to be heading to hospital shortly, for surgery. I’m going in on Monday 15th October, surgery on Tuesday 16th, out in the morning of Tuesday 23rd.

Most of you will already know most of this, but I’m putting it here in one place, for the benefit of everyone who has asked….can I write/phone/visit you?

Well, in short – yes, you can. Firstly, you will be able to write to me via the hospital;

Ms. Suzy Scott
c/o Nuffield Hospital
Warren Road
Woodingdean
BRIGHTON
East Sussex
BN2 6DX

I’ll have my mobile with me, so feel free to phone/send text/sms’s to me. On Tuesday 16th late afternoon & early evening I will be ‘under the knife’, so messages received during this time may take a little while for me to reply to (and bear this in mind for the next following days!)

You can also call me via the hospital main number (01273 624488). There is no voicemail or caller display on these phones, so if you can’t get me there, try a txt/sms to my mobile instead.

If you are going to be in the area, or would like to visit, feel free to do so. There are no restrictions on visiting hours at this hospital, so you can come and go as you like – provided the nursing staff think it’s not going to be a problem (i.e. you may get asked to wait outside for a few minutes from time to time, so if you do, please do so).

Firstly, you must read [personal profile] the_local_echo’s post entitled “Cut Out and Keep Guide for Visitors to the Sussex Nuffield”, if you have not already. (The brothel referred to has since been closed!)

Traveling to Brighton is easy enough. National Express and Megabus from London drop at Pool Valley, and then walk back to Old Steine. By train, head for Brighton’s only main train station. Services are operated by First Capital Connect (former Thameslink line), Southern Railway, and South West Trains. Out-of-town bus services are provided by Brighton & Hove, Metrobus and Stagecoach Coastline.

However you get there, once you get to Brighton, take a bus to Woodingdean.  These are Services 2, 2A and 22 provided by Brighton & Hove bus company, generally using low-floor double deckers. Service 22 will display "Woodingdean 22", the 2 or 2A will display "Rottingdean/via Woodingdean 2/2A". If it displays anything else, you may be at the wrong stop!

Ask the driver for the Nuffield Hospital bus stop – the hospital name matches the bus stop. The company has a two-zone fare system, so from central Brighton to Woodingdean, adults pay £1.70. If you are coming back later in the day, or traveling elsewhere, ask for a CitySaver which costs £2.80 (change given), and is valid for a day's almost-unlimited travel on all B&H and Metrobus services around the city (these are no longer valid on Stagecoach services). There are a number of other combined bus & train tickets, as well as special day ticket prices with Southern  – check www.buses.co.uk or www.southernrailway.com for full details.

Most bus stops in Brighton are fitted with real-time displays, and you can watch bus departures as they scroll off the hospital stop by using this link!

If you are driving, the postcode for your sat-nav is BN2 6DX. You can plan your journey (including directions) at www.transportdirect.info. Car parking at the hospital is free throughout the day, but you cannot park overnight.

There are plenty of other things to do and see locally – see www.visitbrighton.com for full details.

If you can't make it from wherever you are, don't feel too bad, as I will update you on all that I got up to, in due course.

Thanks in advance for your support during this time!

(Hope you find this helpful. It was complied by me in September 2007 before my own surgery, but feel free to copy this information to your own blog etc. when it is time for your own surgery. I can’t guarantee this information will stay correct forever, though).
