Friday went well enough, and I stayed at home. Pains are abating a little, but defiantly still there.
Saturday, well Caroline woke up around 4am, and I woke four hours later or so, after someone brought in me in a cup of coffee! We had planned to go out, and I’d done my hair, so Caroline spent some time trying to get my hair detangled. She has managed to remove the last of the tangles that developed in hospital, but a small bit had to be removed with scissors. Combination of pains meant we stayed in Royston town, and this time Caroline drove us to Somerfield, leaving me only to walk around the corner to Boots for my scripts, and popping into Days Of Ashwell for lunch.
For evening – well, I liked the baked pasta recipe that the caterers did in the Sussex Nuffield Hospital. I stopped short of asking for (the recipe for) it, although I do know of a friend who asked for a similar chicken recipe from an American hospital – saying it was the only edible thing for her entire time there. We had some wholewheat fusili (pasta) in the cupboard, so I decided to try that. It was dried, so it was boiled to soft, but not too soft. This was then put into a Pyrex dish and baked for 15 minutes with the sauce. The sauce was made from a sachet of dry cheese sauce mix, made with semi-skimmed milk. Once boiled, I topped it up with half a carton of double cream, two washed and chopped spring onions, half a teaspoon of dried chopped garlic, and a little bit more of sage, thyme and parsley. A very close substitute to the real thing (which everyone made a little differently) – perhaps some plain (white) penne pasta instead, maybe even some fresh stuff to save the boiling, adding a bit more pasta to it (400g say?) and adding a bit more milk, to thin the sauce down. It wasn’t meant to be totally cheesy, just to have a vague taste of it. You could always add more cheese if that was your thing, but not quite the same as what I was trying to recreate. I rather liked it!
