Not out

I am not at work today after all, as Caroline is feeling rather poorly today. Her temperature is a lot hotter than usual, so she is in bed. She felt really tired last night, and didn't respond after a short nap and tea, which would normally be enough to revive her for a bit longer. Anyway, I can't leave her in that state. She's had a few hours sleep, so I am typing this next door in the study, as quietly as I can!

Christmas Cards have already started coming in - all in one go today, it must be said! One 'to you both' from my parents, which was a surprise. Not sure if it was a surprise because they sent it, or because it wasn't a religious Christmas card. Still, grateful all the same, and that would explain what my sister meant yesterday.

I've got some other things to talk about here too, in time, but they'll need to wait for now.

p.s. Just as soon as I finished typing that, another post van has just brought a large shoebox size box in, from my parents, with 'NO PEEKING UNTIL 25TH' written on it... maybe that's what my sister meant, not the card...

Caroline is now sitting up, but still a bit under the weather!

I've just seen this mentioned on DABF, and my mother has just been on the phone to advise me of this too. As his was the only name on the operators licence, the future of Highwayman Coaches may be in doubt, but that is for another day. While he would sometimes take his hands off the wheel, (and get yelled at by my mother, amongst others!), he was a responsibile person.

Gloag's ex-husband dies in crash

The ex-husband of Stagecoach millionaire Ann Gloag has died after his car left the road and crashed into a field in Perth.

Tayside Police said Robin Gloag, 64, from Inchture, was killed on Low Carse Road - near his home town - just before 2100 GMT on Wednesday.

His overturned silver Renault Laguna was spotted close to a farm by a passing motorist, who raised the alarm.

Emergency services were called but Mr Gloag was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr Gloag helped set up the bus company Stagecoach in the early 1980s before leaving the company. The couple later divorced.

The former bus driver then set up Highwayman coaches.

In a statement, Ann Gloag said: "I'm very sorry to hear of his sudden tragic death."

A member of Mr Gloag's family, speaking from his home, was too upset to comment.

Tayside Police said no other cars were involved in the incident and officers have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

The road remains closed and enquiries have been continuing.

In 1999, Robin and Ann Gloag's son Jonathan, 28, was found dead in woodland in Perthshire.

Jonathan was married to Sarah, the daughter of her second husband David McCleary.

Mrs Gloag and her brother, Brian Souter, became Scotland's most famous entrepreneurial duo after building Stagecoach from a one bus operation into a transport empire spanning four continents.

The firm was floated on the stock market in 1993, making Ms Gloag a multi-millionaire.

... fair to say, today hasn't gone entirely to plan.

Caroline is recovering, thankfully, and I have managed to catch up on some paperwork and stuff.

It's currently 14 degrees, and chucking it down outside, here in Royston...

... oh, and Caroline asked me to cook dinner, and it was my first time using the new deep fat fryer we bought a few weeks ago - so, I experimented, and made my own deep fried pizza, for the first time ever! Only a very small kids-size 4 inches or so across, and it was burnt on the edges (think I left it in a little long), but it was alright... I've had a hell of a lot worse, lets just say.

(should I create a tag for my cooking experiments?)

... as Caroline has just been up for some red wine (made into gluwine - german style mulled wine) and asked me to make up some of my nachos... despite having only one of the basic ingredients, I was able to improvise!

Hopefully I've not picked up her 'lurgy', for the second time in a matter of weeks!
