The weekend

Friday was a late-ish start, taking the 1104 train to Cambridge, before changing there for a train to Kings Lynn. Just like on my previous visits, it started to rain during my visit! To take advantage of the X1 promotion previously mentioned (maximum single fare £2, for two weeks only!) and try some new territory, I had First Volvo/Plaxton 20500 on the X1 to Norwich via the A47, Swaffham and Dereham – not a new Gemini decker, but a few of those were seen on route. After a quick look around the city (and a few pictures before it got dark), went back for the 1547 to Kings Lynn and Peterborough, only to find Volvo/Plaxton coach 20107 on the 1517 there, loading up 20 minutes late (presumably because of roadworks elsewhere). Roadworks on the Lynn by-pass approach lost a lot of time, and we got into Kings Lynn Bus Station at 1802 – only 38 minutes late!

Never mind, I made it into Cambridge an hour late, and met up with Caroline for the evening at Blue Spice Indian buffet at Cambridge Leisure. We've been meaning to go here pretty much since January, and although we don’t normally go out on Friday nights, this was our 19 month anniversary night, so for a change, we did something different. Having got a seat by the window within ten minutes, we both had our fill from the Friday night selection. The test with such things is usually (as I’ve said before) whether they are being used by the local ethnic groups in question – like the Chinese elsewhere in the building was – and this was certainly the case. After that, home, and a quiet Saturday to rest and recuperate (I was *very* tired on Friday night, and still on Saturday morning!)

You can see the pics from Kings Lynn and Norwich, including some not just buses, here.

Sounds like a good weekend so far, that fare on the X1 is fantastic value. My folks were in Norwich in September, they really liked the town. I must go sometime.

Hope you're feeling less tired after the weekend.

Thanks Kirsty!

I'm beginning to get used to online shopping too! :-)

(The X1 is usually way more than that, £11 for a Day ticket, recently increased from £10. The day ticket does give you all of Norfolk and Suffolk, plus to/from Wisbech, Peterborough etc.)

Not bad value for a day ticket considering the distance covered.

The Indian buffet looks great, I like the idea of a changing menu and being able to try lots of different things.

Yes - except the Norfok Green ticket for the same area is only £7 (albeit valid from March/Wisbech in the east, to Norwich only), but it includes all the routes First are dropping off.

The buffet was rather nice, a bit different! We shall see what happens next time.
