December 2008 so far
Dec. 2nd, 2008 09:17 pmMonday 1st December, and we’re off out to London for the afternoon! Our trip had elements of a very similar trip last December, but it wasn’t quite an exact replica. Caroline went to work in the morning, and came home at lunchtime. Train to central London, stopped at Morgan’s, then her appointment with Dr C. After that, we went to the “Winter Wonderland” at Hyde Park (incorporating a German style market), which C enjoyed, before proceeding via Victoria and Euston. At the latter, we met Rachel M who’d travelled down for a few days from the north, and went to her hotel near Great Portland Street, then going out for a dinner/supper of sorts at a Garfunkels (not been in one of those for ages!) off Oxford Circus, then tube and train home. A long day, as we got back to Royston at 2344. Just to prove I don’t always moan, tubes, buses and trains all more-or-less ran smoothly, so no delays encountered, aside from avoiding Bank and the sub-surface tube line group (as ever for a Monday!)
Tuesday 2nd December, and it’s been a quiet-ish day, but catching up. It’s been MINUS TWO degrees up north, and only (positive) two degrees here in Royston (at the low, it did warm up to 4 degrees!) First festive gift of the year is a rather attractive scroll from the local Chinese, when we went to collect dinner for tonight.
Most of the Christmas gifts have been bought (or at least ordered), and we’ve already started using our gifts to each other – I got C a Sat-Nav, minus the monthly charges, and C got me a personalised iPod touch, which arrived yesterday. The latter gave me a slight scare by refusing to charge on two sockets of the PowerBook, but it’s now plugged into the USB port that normally feeds the scanner, and it’s eating power now happily. Might take a bit longer to perfect everything on it – I tried the Maps application, and tried getting directions from Royston to Ashwell, ten minutes down the road. Three hours travel via the M25 and Bristol, to a place near Cardiff. Oops!
(Having said that, it does include Preview built in – so I can probably load it with PDFs, rather than carrying around paper timetables with me? Suppose it depends where I’m off to!)
As to the rest of the gifts, well they are surprises, and that’s how they will stay! (For now).
p.s. Love and hugs and thoughts going out to
elaine4queen as she recuperates from surgery, and it’s beginning to sound like the migraines have gone.
