www.dundeebuses.info
for full downloadable timetables for every bus and coach service in the city

Launched today, Thursday 12th February, is DundeeBuses.info – the newest of Suzy’s web projects.

The concept of a simple, online timetable source has been one that has came and went many times, and was inspired by a similar site of a friend-of-a-friend in NY State. It was designed to be simple schedules and fares and maps only, no JavaScript, no pop-ups, no entering journey details - just simple information, whenever you needed it.

I had the majority of the timetables as PDF’s on my computer, so I thought – why not? I’ve put this site together for information, which I’ve been asked for many times!

The PDF’s or GIF’s on this webpage are from the operators own websites, but are hosted on my server space – meaning, if their site is down, you can come here. You will find all the timetables in PDF or GIF format, which can be opened and easily printed, where possible. In some cases, I have scanned paper timetable leaflets, where no suitable PDF exists. Some timetables may have an amendment added - if this is the case, this will be on the very first page.

Please note – this information is supplied in good faith, but I cannot accept any liability for loss or damage caused by failure of the bus services to operate. While bus operators do everything that they can to ensure services operate as scheduled, circumstances beyond their control mean that they may not always succeed.

If you do not know which service you require, there is a downloadable copy of the Travel Dundee network map there, or you can have a look at the Dundee Journey Planner or Traveline Scotland sites.

I started work on something similar to this for Devon & Cornwall last year but stopped as I was concerned about legal issues with having the bus times online, that the bus companies would hold some legal right to the information and could tell me to cease and desist. Did you need permission to have the timetables online?

It's mostly stuff that is (now) already online, one or two are currently out of date. So, I've updated from my paper leaflet collection!

I've been doing a similar site for the Tech Park area since I worked there, and one of my colleagues was attacked on the way to the bus, not knowing there was actually a service without having to walk through a dark path at night. It's kinda sprung from there.

In days gone back, I did a few leaflets for one of the operators, and helped another with pictures and stuff. So, I guess it's more like helping everyone...

(I guess it does really depend on the operator, and how they feel. If there are other parallel sites, then trying to offer something new. When I started the Techpark site, it was stuff not available online, and later changed to a customized version for the company I used to work for, held in our network. There are other ways of getting timetables for Dundee, but nowhere to get PDF's for every route in one place - which you can do for most of the adjoining areas).

BIT SNOWY on 12th.

... indeed, and two short-notice changes have been submitted... one route with immediate effect on safety grounds, and one route/timetable from the 1st of March...

... was the snow in Dundee really that bad?

We live in an ultra cautious age and people have forgotten how to drive carefully on snow, the main routes were fine. The bridge which at one time had no speed limit is now permanently 30 mph and closes in a strong breeze, we used to cross in gales with no problem!!
