Yesterday was an interesting day, for many reasons. Caroline had the final touches done to her application to the GRP, and I went out for an afternoon bash.

Caroline and I went through her paperwork for her GRC application on Sunday, and I made an appointment with a local solicitor. We got an appointment at the start of her lunch hour, and we were processed very quickly, so job done! We went to the Barracuda pub in Royston for lunch, before C dropped me off opposite Royston Bus Station.

I hung around a few minutes for the Wednesday only Stagecoach Huntingdon Service 139 from Royston via local villages. I’d done the “middle” journey twice recently, but never the last journey (Royston to Foxton, but addoitionally serving some extra bits, i.e. Shepreth, Fowlmere memorial, the lower end of Duxford, Ickleton, etc. I’d purchased an online X5 MegaRider Gold for the week, and the co-driver (regular 139 driver, who is moving to a new route in a few weeks) recognised me. As I boarded, he saw my name on the ticket, and he clicked that he’d seen me before on the Forum…! The bus was a surprise, long Volvo 21217, driver assures me this is a first for him, and we had to take it easy at several pinch points.

I got off at Great Shelford, and took MAN/ALX300 22059 on Stagecoach Cambridge citi7 to Cambridge Regent Street, stopping for drinks to take with me onto the next journey. As I crossed Parker’s Piece, went for a closeup of Reality Checkpoint. As should be expected in such good weather, the park was positively heaving, with several games teams practising, oblivious to the rush of the city streets going by.

Then, from Cambridge Parkside to Bedford Bus Station on the X5, and my first go in one of the new coaches in daylight! You might make it out in this pic – the one on the left…

Volvo/Plaxton 53615, one of the batch new in January, seen here…

… and that took me to Bedford. Quick look around, picking up literature for further trip plans, including a long bash on Monday! One route I couldn’t see displayed, so I asked, and she kindly printed me one off the pc! On returning from Bedford, 53608 took me back to Parkside, and I crossed the park as night set in, just before 1840. The park was much quieter, a pile of glasses and bottles (wine!) at one end of one of the greens – sounded like some group had a nice time! As I kept walking (back to Lensfield Road, for 16026 on the last 26 back to Royston), I think that although the transport is always of interest, it’s part of the fun (and a huge privilege) just to be walking around these areas.

Tis was a good day, and you can see all the pictures here.

Now, I’m about to get ready to go out, for an evening meeting at work. Tomorrow, back at work in the afternoon, next major trip is on Saturday… keep watching!
