Today I was traveling around Cambridge city centre on a number of missions, but first things first. No-one lives forever, but this day is notable for being my grandmother's birthday. If she had still been alive, she would have been 84 now. As the only member of the family who seemed to support me, it was in the back of my mind on a few occasions today. It was also the date, fourteen years ago, that she had her final pet - a vicious cat, which she named Fluffy... the irony of that is still not lost on me.

Yesterday, Caroline was expecting a delivery which never showed up. As a result, she requested an upgrade on the delivery, and was told it would be delivered by 1030 today. I left just after 1130, and it hadn't shown up! Caroline called the company, and it had been dispatched on 'standard' next day delivery by mistake! So, she was then promised her stuff tomorrow (Thursday 26th). However, never attempt to get between her and her goodies. She ended up chasing the ICL van down the back streets of Royston, before eventually finding the driver, and getting her things! Excellent... but the company where the stuff was bought from hardly inspires confidence, does it? No, before you ask, it wasn't this lot...

I got off the 26 in Trumpington, and walked around to the Park & Ride site. On the way past Waitrose, I nabbed this pic of one of the new blue Enviro 400 deckers for the Park & Ride network - will be one of twenty-one when they are all here. Do you like the scrolling text on the destination display? It will take some time for me to get used to it...

At Trumpington, spotted Burtons Solo 300, which is a 'temporary' extra vehicle to cover the extra-long diverted route on Service H1.

Other operator tickets, including Multibus, are not normally accepted on the H1. Having said that, for the duration of the road closure on Long Road, H1 is accepting all Stagecoach tickets. So, I had a bash on 300 to Addenbrookes, before getting this Volvo Olympian of Whippet Coaches on Service 114... P348 ROO is no stranger to me, having been seen before with Harris Bus, East Thames Buses, then UK North.

The 114 is an interesting route, following a number of roads which I'd only passed before in the car(s). It is a proverbial shoppers paradise, as the bus stops at Sainsbury's Coldham Lane, the Beehive Centre (Asda), Cambridge Retail Park, the Grafton Centre, as well as all the shops in the city centre.

This got me into town in enough time to make an appointment, before I returned to the city centre, and then onto the rail station. David & Jacqui (who you may remember I was on holiday with to Skegness back in April) were coming to town for a few days, and I met them at the railway station, before taking them round to their hotel at the adjacent-but-the-other-side-of-the-tracks at Cambridge Leisure.

After a few hours, we walked into central Cambridge via a few pubs, and I got the last 26 of the night back to Royston at 1840. C was going to come into the city, but used most of the evening assembling her gadgets, and installing new software.

So, no sun, but everyone is still happy. Pics here.
