Fridays Are Different…
Apr. 13th, 2007 11:19 pm… well, so said XFM Scotland on the last Friday 13th back in October, and this one certainly was. I had another counselling appointment in Glasgow with Alex in the morning, and then I was intending to head south on holiday. That is why I left the house early, and away the rest of the day!
Left the house, got to the bus station in time for the 0800 Dundee – Glasgow M9, coach 54009 again. I got into Glasgow, and went for coffee (as I’d not had one before I left the house), before heading to see Alex. She was somewhat pleased for the two of us, and happy that everything was now (finally) starting to change.
I headed back by bus to Glasgow City Centre, and ended up buying a few things in the shops. Took a few bus pictures to keep you lot happy – nothing spectacular. I then bought a few more items, including a gift set for Caroline from the Lush store, before meeting up with Bobby for a quick lunch at Pizza Hut. We discussed love, relationships, the launch of the forthcoming Subway Nightrider, amongst other things.
I then headed for Glasgow Central, as I was heading south on the 1600 GNER train to London. Plan was to take it to Stevenage, cross over, and get the First Capital Connect train to Royston. When Caroline heard of my plans, she offered to pick me up from Stevenage personally, which was very nice! So, 1600 train as far as Stevenage, meaning we called in at some old haunts along the way – Motherwell, Edinburgh, then NOT stopping but passing Dunbar and Berwick, stopping again at Alnmouth, Newcastle, Darlington, York, Doncaster (where the new Interchange could be seen from the train), Peterborough, and then off at Stevenage at 2116.
Lots of text messages fired off in many directions whilst I was on the train, and then I got one in from Adam Hobson – who is finishing his holiday tomorrow morning to head back to Dundee to work (he too is in a “medium distance” relationship). He asked if I knew anyone who could do his shift for him tomorrow, and then I replied to remind him the only person mad enough to pick up a shift like that was me, and I was off for the next two weeks! As the train pulled into Stevenage, he sent me a follow-up saying “Fair enough, so when do you see your chick?” I replied “About 90 seconds time…”
Caroline had already sent me a text to say where she was waiting at the station, but as I made it through the ticket barriers at the top of the stairs, there was a lady, mostly in white, calling my name. It did save me wondering where to go next, I will admit… but problem sorted. We made it to the car, and to say we’d missed each other was an understatement. We headed out in the car for the A505, and Caroline was in awe at seeing me – but also appreciated being called a “chick” for the first time!
We stopped at Tesco Extra at Royston briefly for a few things – third Tesco I’d visited that day! – before getting back in the car, and heading back to her place... where we got in, hugged, and then, a train goes past. I look back in her eyes and then at my watch, and say "That didn't take long... what, 90 seconds?" Caroline replied "I thought you might bring a stopwatch and start timing them..." I said "Don't get me started on that..." :)
