Following last week’s events, a trip to see the nurse had been booked for this morning. It was originally for this morning, but I got a call from the nurse at the end of last week to say that she forgot she had the day off to do paperwork (pending an inspection), so she’d inadvertently booked me in for 1110 the following Monday i.e. 3rd Dec. So, another nurse was booked to see me – officially – but Janet said that she would be doing it. Not that I was overly fussed, given what was happening.

Now, cast your mind back a few weeks to when we were going to have to move. Today was the official notice day, and the paperwork is (as far as I know) still continuing on in the background. Caroline mentioned this earlier, and just before 1000, the door goes. Two well-dressed women at the door, and I’m stripping off to go in the bath. Redressed, tidy things away, assuming they must have been something to do with the letting agency, or something.

Guess who?

(Sadists may well love this).

It’s (what I've heard referred to before as) The God Squad.

Two of them explained they were basically here to spread the word, and they quoted me the bit out of the book of Matthew, which basically translated onto ‘treat others as you would like to be treated yourself’. I did, and politely told them I have to get going out soon… so they went away politely and thanked me.

As I shut and locked the door, I remember saying to myself “who f*****g let them in?” I don’t remember the security door being buzzed… as the postwoman often buzzes this one, as I am usually here, if she can’t get in herself.

Anyway, I got ready, got out, and got in to the docs a minute down, and met the nurse again. Apparently it’s looking a lot better than it did on Wednesday evening, which I guess is down to the antibiotics, both in the capsules and the ointment. The job today was (aside from mentioning my sleeping issues, which could be down to a lot of things) to have a look at the bits that were causing the bleeding and pain – although it was only slight, it was still noticeable, especially during dilation or sleeplessness.

The women reading this will have a rough idea of what I’m about to say, but some of the rest of you will just have to go along with this! I had to lie up on the bed, spread the legs etc. while a small plastic device called a speculum (the nurse called it a cusco) is inserted to let them in for a look. (I’ve had the equivalent in the other side before many times). While trying not to hurt me or to break anything, a gentle slip-in (about the same side and width as a dilator) went in, and she had a look. There were only two very small spots to be done, which were touched up with a stick with silver nitrate on one end of it. She was apologetic about not being too familiar with these things, but everyone has a first time. She also said that there was not a huge amount of stitching visible – which, for just under six weeks since surgery, is surely a good thing. The touching felt a little like a pen touching skin, not sore, just shows that there is feeling in there…

… So anyway, bus to town, a few things, and Caroline sent me a text saying she’d be coming into town, to visit the bank. Lift back to the flat, and we talked about our day so far.

p.s. Oh, and I go back again a week on Monday, at 1110. That’s right, the appointment I had before, and she changed it to today…

actually, if you are not turned on and if it doesn't hurt, having something GENTLY inserted doesn't feel like much to a regular issue woman, either. what does hurt is if they are rough, i had a bad one where i went into spasm and she was basically fucking me with this metal speculum. i was in pain for, seriously, weeks.

all sounds pretty promising, apart from the burglar style goddies, but you can't win 'em all. i once wanted to get rid asap and said upon answering the door "i am a lesbian and so is my girlfriend" and shut the door and was probably about as puzzled by what i had said as they were.

Hi!!!

I imagine it's like anything else. I know catheter insertion can sometimes really hurt if not done properly (this is mostly in pre-op times I am thinking of).

It was a disposable plastic speculum, and a small one at that.

The god bothers went away ok enough, so no problems really there. My mother knows most of the ministers etc. in Dundee, so I sometimes get stopped by people who still call me Andrew... never mind, they soon get told! (It's only been, what, three years seven-and-a-half months...?)

You should have said 'I'm a lesbian, and so is my boyfriend...'... it would have given them quite a lot more to think of :)

heh.

at least they call you andrew and not DAMNED. my brother and his wife were excommunicated by the mormon church, for living together! in their book (the mickey mouse version of christianity) that is a mortal sin so there is no going back. gave them a short end game with the missionaries.

Oh, I had that (sort of) too from my mother, but I'd given up on the church long ago. Nothing to do with sexuality, but the realization that myself & my father were both doomed with genetics, so there was no point in false hope.

That's why I'm living now... not in the afterlife.

Incidentally, one of the religious folk who knew my family in Dundee found one of the old pages on my website by chance. I pointed out the change (some time ago now), and she wrote back very positively and wished me well. See, they're not all so bad!

See, when all you want to do is spread your legs in front of strangers (well, not want, but have to), then religion gets in the way from no-where...

... OK, I've said I cannot be surprised any more this year, but the way things are going, who knows!
