TD have issued a press release, which basically starts in the same way as the one issued for West Midlands and Coventry, which starts ‘Commuting by bus to get cheaper’, from Sunday 6th January 2008. While the Adult weekly bus pass is reduced from £10.00 to £9.50 (again!), and the 4-week goes from £37.00 to £36.00, Monthly ‘by direct debit’ prices are frozen. Child weekly/4-week and Student Term passes are frozen. The Adult DaySaver remains frozen at £2.60, with the Child price at £1.75. DaySaver5 (five people travel all day) goes from £5.50 to £6.00, and the Evening Saver (unlimited travel after 1800) goes from £1.60 to £1.80.

Cash fares all rise – Adult 60p, £1.00 and £1.25 all rise by 10p to 70p, £1.10 and £1.35. Child 37p, 52p, 62p all rise 5p to 42p, 57p, 67p. (The concession card reimbursement is, of course, based on the Adult Single prices, to a certain level). Multi-journey cards are also altered, but with an unusual development. The Adult 6 Journey card (6 journeys anywhere for £5.70) is discontinued. The Adult 10 Journey card rises from £9.50 to £10.00, but this ticket will also be sold on the bus – currently only sold from the Travel Centre, Tourist Information Centre, Post Offices, and the vending machines at Tayside House and Ninewells Hospital. The Child 10 Journey card rises from £4.75 to £5.20, the web does not state if this will be sold on the bus or not.

So, will you get anything else for your money? From the same date, a package of service changes will be occurring. Services 3 & 4 (City Centre & Dryburgh/Camperdown Circular) will revert to operating in the morning before 0900 only, and this means the reintroduction of Service 4A (City Centre – Camperdown Leisure Park) every 30 minutes throughout most of the day. This will therefore revert to the pre-2005 arrangements, and thus increase direct services to most areas, even if it does mean a slightly longer journey for some. Services 7 & 8 (Inner Circle) will also revert to the pre-2005 route, to include Rankine Street, Gardner Street, Kilberry Street and Lawside Road, between Mitchell Street Centre and Stirling Park. Gardner Street had no service since May 2005, until Strathtay introduced Service 6 in August this year.

Services 9/10/11/12 (Outer Circle) will run to a slightly revised timetable, and X-City Direct Service 14 (Ninewells Hospital – Ethiebeaton Park) will run to a revised route and timetable, which will include missing out the Scott Fyffe Roundabout on the A92, and run directly down Longtown Road (hmm, wonder where that came from? LOL) ‘Works’ Services 93 & 94 (Douglas – Gourdie/Technology Park) are to be withdrawn. The final change is perhaps the most interesting. Service 9X/10X (Forthill – Technology Park) get minor time changes during the day, but a new Monday to Saturday evening service running every 20 minutes, albeit between the City Centre and Forthill/Barnhill only, with no evening service on the western side.

The National Express group is also currently rebranding, with the first step being in December when they took over from the GNER franchise on the East Coast Main rail line, now known as ‘National Express East Coast’, with new logos and striping. A new livery and trading name – perhaps something like ‘National Express Dundee’ – can also be expected.

Must tell my mum about the changes to the 14, she uses that to get from my sister's into town when she looks after my niece.

Hopefully it will improve the reliability of it (see posts about this in March/April time, when we had Jim Lee & Stuart Henry up to my place of former employment to answer for problems in service!)... and of course, the 9x/10x, as it is the same drivers who do both.

TD haven't mentioned it yet, but with Xmas and fare changes, guess they can be excused!

(or is it National Express Dundee? lol)
