I’ve disappeared for the last few days. Hospital pre-op assessment (yesterday) seemed to go smoothly enough, it’s back to Haywards Heath for a week today. I seemed to have picked up the lurgy (again) earlier in the week, so I’m still coughing, spluttering and sore. It’s also the sort (around this time of year) that upsets me too. Never mind, will hope to recover in time for next week. Will catch up with what I’ve missed in the last few days soon.
That’s my work completed on OU modules M150 and T175. While I can’t say too much about the study, I think it would be fair to say that M150 was the better presented of the two – but don’t let that put you off!
Now working on plans for Sunday (at Showbus, for at least part of the day) and working on prepping tonight’s dinner, at the same time!

Recent thoughts
Sep. 2nd, 2009 11:58 amJust because this journal is getting a little quiet, does not mean that I’m not deep in thought.
I was feeling a little off key over the bank holiday, so managed to scrape by and put in the assessment that was due. The OU study has been an interesting time, in many ways. The time spent learning has been joined by problems with Word’s auto formatting tools, and problems in trying to use the same files on a Mac and a laptop PC. The same, you think? No! Then there was the evening when I actually physically broke the thumb drive that my work was on, due a few hours after that… aach well, it’s in now.
There is not long to go in these now (like another book project, which is happening on and off!), which leads me to my next thoughts. If I do more study, I won’t be doing two at a time – that was just a little much for me. One would have been fine, and I know this now!
It’s all about refinement, as well as contemplation in my mind, right now. Not just doing things, but refining what I do, and how I do it. There are a number of anniversaries coming up, and special dates in my mind. The fairly recent announcement about my former work reminds me that no matter how much you want the world to stand still, it doesn’t. I’ve been very lucky to have a supportive partner, and being able to do what I’d like to do, with the rest of my life. Well, within limits. I’ve been able to do things, see places, etc. that I wanted to. I’ve always got someone to bounce ideas off, and talk about things. I can do things that I think are interesting, rather than having to scrape myself through, just to break even.
Work yesterday – almost two years there now! Me working on a Tuesday afternoon, and the previous Friday morning, is a little different from the norm. I haven’t done a Tuesday for a while, but I’ve tried to assist by fitting shifts around others, where I can. Even got something a little different to sample on the journey to work, and the bus back again (again, unusual!).
Now, with uni and work all caught up with, I now have four quiet days to myself – three weekdays, and a quiet Saturday, before going out this coming Sunday. Think we are going out tonight. Otherwise, it’s time for more reflection and quiet times, preparing for the weekend.

Weekend quick update
Aug. 24th, 2009 09:19 amYesterday we had a fairly quiet day, including a lunch stop at The Standing Order in Stevenage (JDW pub number 13 of the year!) which C thoroughly enjoyed! We then went back (planned to go via the A602 to Hertford then the A10, but it’s closed, I remembered as we approached the ROAD CLOSED signs) to Royston.
I’m feeling not so bad this week – well, in comparison to last week, I feel so much better now!

The last week
May. 31st, 2009 11:24 amOK, so I’ve been running around a little this week, but I was exceptionally tired on Friday and Saturday. I had feelings before of hoping and getting out of the slump, but unfortunately not.
Highlights of the week…
* Getting 82% on TMA02 on Open Uni course M150. This was especially good, as the evening of the deadline saw a number of problems, including me inadvertently destroying the USB drive with the work on it, after I raised my knee into the edge of Caroline’s Mac PowerBook. Then, losing the pictures and formatting from within the document… anyway, as can be seen, a good recovery was made!
* Some good and bad moments. Lack of energy and pain is affecting my mood, as well as other issues. I’ve been trying not to get too badly upset.
* Appointment confirmed with the GIC in west London in little over four weeks time. It did look like it was going to be in the same week as my next genetics appointment, but the latter has been brought forward at my request (she said that they would if they had a cancellation). Thankfully not the same week, but also, it’s the same week at Caroline’s two appointments in the same morning at Addenbrooke’s, the cut-off date for the second CMA for T175, the BABUS AGM, as well as Fathers Day, which I have a gift to parcel up and send off in due course.
* Friday, oh dear. After getting the letter re the GIC appointment, was about ready to go out for the train to Cambridge. No, someone was on the track at London Kings Cross, so everything on the way out was at a standstill. So, I went for the bus… had to get cash, did so, managed to make it around, and it was a unexpected surprise, Stagecoach Trident 17078 on the 26! Took that into Cambridge, then onto work. After work, on the way home, my shoes managed to split at the top (canvas summer type that C somehow didn’t like after all…) and as a result, it came off my foot in the middle of Cambridge Emmanuel Street, with just a few minutes to go before the bus back to Royston. So, limped around to Drummer Street with one shoe on…
* Saturday, almost equal fun. After getting a forwarded election communication that Scottish Labour sent to my old address, asking locals not to vote SNP (not long after they’ve taken control of the City Council), I wondered what chance a Scottish Nationalist would stand if up for election in North Hertfordshire… not me, but just the chances of… anyway, we went out to Cambridge to the Lucky Star buffet followed by the cinema next door, C wanted to watch Angels And Demons, which she had also been reading. More shoe problems… mind you, following the previous day’s incident, purchase of a book on the history of footwear was an inspired purchase (perhaps) at the booksale earlier – along with a large Spanish dictionary, with attached USB drive. We’ll see.
* About to make lunch for the both of us – it is our 26 month anniversary today.

We've been back for an hour or two now. We went out for the afternoon, driving south from Royston via Hare Street, Hay Street, Puckeridge, then onto the A120 to Bishops Stortford (lunch at Pizza Express) before continuing on a trip via Hatfield Forrest (not in Hatfield!), Thaxted, Saffron Walden, Chrishall, and then back to Royston. We're now relaxing...
The week that just was
May. 23rd, 2009 12:32 pmIt’s been a busy week.
As I mentioned before, we were out last weekend, and I bought some Garnier Herbashine 565 (Red Mahogany) crème colourant (hair colour), which C applied on Monday evening. I was out on Tuesday at work, swapping with the person who normally does this shift, as she couldn’t do this Friday. Got the book finally finished and launched on Friday, see separate post.
I’ve touched on the problems we’ve had with the doctor. Turns out that he’d not done a lot of the things we’d asked him to, often taking ages before getting a response within a few days, and blaming everyone else for these problems. After perusing our notes on Wednesday night at the surgery, it is a lot more of a detailed problem (and much more of it happening) than I’d first imagined. Detailed complaint ongoing, but we were very impressed with the female doctor we saw, and who deals with admin. We think we’d like to see her in future, and have asked for this. In the meantime, keep watching.
This week was not perfect. I did get some rather bad feelings throughout, and I thought these had passed. I remember my dad getting rather angry etc. around this stage too, and (with everything inherited and stuff) it seems as if this might be the start of a slope. When I mention that there are bad days and good days, I'd certainly had many bad days of late. Once again, I now find myself looking forward to a better week ahead.
This weekend, today is a quiet one. We’ve got a grocery delivery coming later, and might be heading out tomorrow.

Following this post, we had a brief Monday out. Not very long, enough to get what we needed, but not too long to tire Caroline out. After stopping for lunch, onto Cambridge Retail Park for some more my-size-and-colour tops from Evans. I stopped shopping when I thought I’d spent too much on Saturday at Lowestoft, but turned out I’d not, so I went back for two lots of 3 for £12 T-Shirts to add to the similarly priced vest tops bought earlier in the weekend. I also bought two new pairs of summer shoes, one more belt, one more formal dress (these two on sale) and a blue skirt. I’m now sneezing rapidly – I think it’s start of the pollen season!
Tuesday, and C returns to work, but I’ve been busy at home. The BABUS website and email addresses are now complete (for now, more content to follow), so those are now in use, and the Bulletin Board was set up by me earlier. Tesco home delivery came shortly after Parcelforce arrived with our two personalised engagement rings, which we’d decided to order from Next Generation Pride – they arrived today, in an envelope from Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. Yes, it’s quite a bit cheaper to have two rings, hand made by two caring women, with our birthstones and names, mailed here, including paying VAT and customs handling, even with the weak state of the pound, than buying something retail – and we tried, only to find those we wanted were out of stock when we went for one.
I’ve now caught up with the vast majority of my to-do list, and am now back up to speed, and now to add the rest of the names to my new SIM card address book (started on Friday on the way to Lowestoft).

While Caroline has been recovering at home, I’d agreed some time ago to go off to Lowestoft for a few days with David and Jacqueline. The travelling for those days is getting to me, but I said I’d come from Friday to Sunday – as David was paying for the hotel room for me, as well as their own! Anyway, a nice weekend occurred – used the opportunity to get some new summer clothing too. David had also offered to purchase a new mobile for me, so I’ve now got a white & purple Nokia 5000 (plus an o2 USB modem as an upsell!) It was a nice weekend away, and I got back here early lunchtime, where C came out of the house for the first time in a few days!
My thumb is somewhat sore as I type this (to add to that I’ve also somehow managed to take the skin off one of the healing blisters on my right knee with the bed night before last) so you can have a look at the pictures taken over the weekend.

Knee update
Apr. 12th, 2009 05:17 pmAlmost right on cue (3 days after falling twice in central London) my right knee is starting to reduce the swelling, but the bruise is starting to bloom. The left knee is also slightly decorated too.
We're going out tomorrow, and I've got work on Friday. As for the rest, maybe take it!
In the meantime, a quiet Easter Sunday, with no snow this year!
Catching up
Feb. 16th, 2009 08:27 pmIt’s been a mixed little while. Indeed, I’d had some bad times of it, mostly as my mind wasn’t thinking straight (have you noticed it’s happening the same time every year?) Any medical disorders in the world are still no excuse for being an a**hole, and I’ve tried to explain and apologise, and move on. I’m beginning to feel over the problems, and I’m not sure why I feel over them now – change of climate, ever so slightly?
Saturday, Valentines Day, but we also did a bit of looking after each other. By coincidence, the hair colour that I’d ordered from Lush (and a new tint brush from HairCrazy, with some new elastic hair bands to replace those I bought last summer, now wearing out), had arrived in time for the weekend. Following the highlights I had put in at CRC last October, I've decided to go for something brighter. Something too un-natural (i.e. pink) wasn't to Caroline's taste, so we agreed that a red henna would, potentially, look nice. So, here's a Valentine's day with a difference, as a few hours are spent with C slapping this stuff onto me... see the pictures here. It’s defiantly much brighter, and continuing to get lighter ever since.
Sunday and Monday mostly spent working on another book project – well, updated book project. Nothing special this week – Tuesday to Friday afternoons is planned for OU stuff, this week at least.

Today, we’re under a blanket of snow, a few inches, but more elsewhere.
C is back at home – no-one else was at work, so she is working from home.
No trains on the Brighton Lines, aside from two an hour to Gatwick. Trains across Anglia are either running with delays, and as Stansted Airport is closed, less trains there. Here, there are two trains an hour from Cambridge to London (all stations except Foxton, Meldreth and Shepreth, as these are all eight car trains, and those stations cannot currently accommodate them) together with another two to Peterborough. (trains from Cambridge at 6 and 36 past, returning from London at 26 and 55 past. From Peterborough at 15 and 45 past, returning from London at 22 and 52 past).
TfL suspended all London bus routes, including those running cross-boundary into Herts, Essex etc. (like the 20, 167, 279, 298, etc.) and most of the above ground parts of the London underground are off too.
Meh. Think I’ll try and spoil Caroline, again.

The last week
Feb. 1st, 2009 03:07 pmIt’s been a busy week, since my last post. We have a replacement for the car… one that drinks less fuel, a autumn red Mazda, which is currently on a Select registration plate. The couple downstairs were moving back offshore, and C took it for a spin. I’m still getting used to it!
Friday… remember I mentioned Rebecca’s Wishes? Well, after the post re Norfolk Green’s fundraising efforts, I googled the charity, found the website. So, we now have one of their teddies in our collection too!
Saturday is mentioned in it’s own post!
Today, we took the defective freezer to the Recycling Centre (minus the door handle – replacement for the identical broken fridge handle, so there was some good out of all this!)
Tomorrow (Monday) should be a quiet one.
Tuesday, wait and see - but hopefully, the start of an important week can go well!

My Tuesday 6th January
Jan. 6th, 2009 05:33 pmI've been feeling so-so today, but better this afternoon. Like I was feeling hot in the morning again, but no particular reason.
Anyway, It's been less frantic than yesterday, so also got the time to finish unpacking (after having to stop on Sunday). I also spent part of the afternoon updating my LJ profile, with additional information, clickable links, etc.
(I started looking at other LJ profile interests for inspiration, and then added some more of my own).

The second day of happiness
Dec. 7th, 2008 02:58 pmToday's not too bad, even though it was minus one outside this morning!
So, what can I say that shows happiness? Well, I've just about finished off a little end-of-year project that I'll be mentioning here in due course. We've had the grocery delivery for the next week, and I'm not too tired right now.

Got a long list of things to do tomorrow, calls to make etc. - and working on plans for the next 4-5 weeks or so.
